Privacy Policy

The short version: HeyTexty collects nothing. It runs entirely in your browser, has no account and no server, and your text never leaves your device — with one clearly-marked exception: the optional AI rewrite feature, which you turn on with your own API key and which sends the text you choose to rewrite to Anthropic.

What HeyTexty does

HeyTexty is a browser extension that converts text you select into styled Unicode characters (bold, italic, fonts, bullets, and more) so you can format posts on websites that don't have a rich-text editor. All of this conversion happens locally, in your browser, on your device.

Data we collect

None. HeyTexty does not collect, store, transmit, sell, or share any personal information or usage data. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising, and no third-party data sharing. We never see your text.

How your text is handled

Text you select or type is transformed on your device and either inserted back into the page you're using or copied to your clipboard when you click Copy.
It is never sent to us. The only time text leaves your device is if you use the optional AI rewrite feature (see below), which sends it to Anthropic using your own API key.

Optional AI rewrite (Claude)

HeyTexty includes an optional feature that rewrites your post with Claude. It is off until you add your own Anthropic API key, and it only runs when you click a rewrite action. When you do:

The text currently in the editor is sent directly from your browser to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com) using your key, and the rewritten text is returned.
That request goes to Anthropic, not to us — we never see the text or your key. Anthropic's handling of it is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy and your agreement with them.
Your API key is stored locally on your device (in extension storage) and is only ever sent to Anthropic. You can remove it any time with "Remove key".
If you never add a key, no text is ever sent anywhere.

Local storage on your device

To make the tool convenient, HeyTexty saves a small amount of data locally in your browser using the extension storage and localStorage:

Your current side-panel draft, so it's still there next time you open the panel.
Small preferences such as your chosen theme and AI model.
Your Anthropic API key, if you add one for the optional AI feature (sent only to Anthropic, never to us).

This data stays on your device, is never transmitted anywhere, and you can clear it at any time by removing the extension or clearing your browser data.

Site access	To show the inline formatting toolbar inside supported post editors (LinkedIn, Skool, X, Facebook, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube, Pinterest). HeyTexty only adds its toolbar — it does not read, collect, or transmit page content.
api.anthropic.com	Used only by the optional AI rewrite feature, and only when you have added your own API key, to send the text you choose to rewrite to Anthropic and receive the result.

Third parties

HeyTexty uses no analytics, tracking, or advertising services. The only external service it can contact is Anthropic's API — and only when you have added your own key and used the optional AI rewrite feature. There are no other external network requests made with your content.

Children's privacy

HeyTexty does not collect data from anyone, including children, and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will change and the revised policy will be posted at this address.
